The crawlability, metadata, schema, speed, sitemap, and indexing checks every AI startup or agency site should complete.

AI websites often look polished but fail basic technical SEO: duplicate titles, missing canonical tags, empty sitemaps, weak internal links, slow scripts, or generic metadata. This checklist catches the issues that stop a new site from earning impressions.

Crawlability

  • Robots.txt allows public pages and points to the sitemap.
  • Sitemap includes all service pages and blog posts.
  • Important pages are reachable from navigation or internal links.
  • No accidental noindex tags on production pages.

Metadata

  • Every indexable page has a unique title under 60 characters.
  • Descriptions are clear, specific, and under 160 characters.
  • Canonical URLs point to the final production domain.
  • Open Graph tags match the page, not only the homepage.

Schema

Add Organization and WebSite schema globally. Add Article schema to blog posts, FAQ schema where real FAQs exist, and Service schema where pages describe a defined offer. Schema should describe visible content, not invent hidden claims.

Speed and rendering

Use compressed images, limit third-party scripts, lazy-load below-the-fold media, and keep the first viewport meaningful without waiting for client-only JavaScript. Search crawlers can render JavaScript, but server-rendered content is safer.

Frequently asked questions

What is the most common technical SEO issue on AI websites?+

Generic metadata and weak internal linking are the most common. Search engines cannot tell which pages matter if every page looks the same.

How often should the sitemap update?+

Whenever service routes or blog posts change. For active blogs, updating automatically is best.
